BRIGHTEN BROADWAY ART SIGN PROJECT

from 10.00

In Spring of 2016, Ms. Ana Garcia’s 12th Grade Government class at EBC High School was tasked with finding a problem in their community that they wanted to tackle and find a way to solve it as part of their newly introduced Y-PLAN (Youth – Plan, Learn, Act, Now!) curriculum. The class concluded that Broadway, a commercial corridor that serves as the border of the communities of Bushwick and Bedstuy in Brooklyn, needed to be further beautified considering that many of the residents and community members they spoke to as part of their research characterized the corridor as being “dark”, “dim”, “dirty”, “grim”, and “unsafe”. Today, in partnership with Thomas Gleisner and the NYC Dept. of Transportation, the current 12th Grade Class (taught by Mr. Mungioli) is working on posting public art signs that speak to the diverse and fighting spirit of Bushwick.
